Modest Mouse is an American Rock, Alternative and Punk band, based in Portland, Oregon. Strongly influenced by Pavement, Pixies, XTC, and Talking Heads, the current lineup is lead vocalist Isaac Brock on guitar, drummer Jeremiah Green, Tom Peloso on the upright bass, guitarist Jim Fairchild, Lisa Molinaro playing both the viola and bass guitar, Russell Higbee on bass and rhythm guitars, percussionist Ben Massarella and keyboardist Darrin Wiener. The band currently have six studio albums out and after a six-year hiatus, following 2015s, Strangers to Ourselves, will release their seventh studio album, The Golden Casket, on June 25, 2021, lyrically, the album explores “themes ranging from the degradation of our psychic landscapes and invisible technology, to fatherhood,”. The first single, We Are Between, from the upcoming album charted at the number 4 position on the Billboard Triple A Airplay Chart, also released from the album is the single, Leave a Light On. It feels woozy and borderline psychedelic at the edges, but it’s anchored by a big indie rock sing-along hook: “We’re leaving, we’re leaving, we’re leaving/We’ll be home soon.” Which kind of relates to how we all feel at the moment, finally coming out of our homes, squinting up at the big burning ball of fire in the sky, thinking, wow! I haven’t seen that in a while…
