Frontman Sameer Gadhia is joined by guitarists Jacob Tilley and Eric Cannata, bassist Payam Doostzadeh, and drummer Francois Comtois. Before releasing their self-titled debut album in 2009 on Roadrunner Records, the band went by the name The Jakes. My Body, Cough Syrup, and Apartment, the band's first three singles, all charted on the US Alternative Songs chart and catapulted the band to fame.

Kassel, in the German state of Hesse, is the birthplace of the enduringly popular rock band Milky Chance.
